  M. Hingis / A. Chakvetadze

  6‑3, 3‑1 Ret.

ANNA CHAKVETADZE

THE MODERATOR: Questions for Anna, please.

Q. When did you suffer the injury?

ANNA CHAKVETADZE: Well, I felt it yesterday in the evening and I had some treatment but it was not that bad.  And in the practice I felt okay because I didn't serve that much on the warm‑up, so I felt pretty good.  And then in the start of the first set, when I started to make double faults, I felt something wrong with my hand.  It was really stiff and it was hurting when I served and when I was playing forehand.  So I was surprised that Martina played a lot to my backhand.  I wanted to actually retire in the end of the set, but then I felt okay, I will try to play.  But, you know, at that level if something is bothering you, you can't play.  And I'm really sad because I knew I could be in the finals.

Q. How did you take the crowd's reaction at the end of the match?

ANNA CHAKVETADZE: Well, you know, people are upset because so many withdrawals this week.  So I think it's ‑‑  I know it was not personal, but just people are upset because, you know, everyone retired.  And I wish I could play to the end and I just couldn't and that's why.

Q. What's your experience been like so far in Montreal in this tournament?

ANNA CHAKVETADZE: Well, you know, it's anyway a great tournament for me, my first semifinal Tier 1 and I look forward to play at the US Open.

Q. What exactly is the injury?

ANNA CHAKVETADZE: It's a strain.

THE MODERATOR: A forearm strain.

Q. Is that something that will prevent you from playing in The Open?

ANNA CHAKVETADZE: No, I hope it will be okay because trainer told me like it takes about four or five days to recover.  So I hope it will be okay.

Q. You were scheduled to go to New Haven.  Will you change your mind on that?

ANNA CHAKVETADZE: I'm still thinking about it.  I will see how I feel next week.  I will go there anyway, but will I play there or not is a question still.

Q. Do you feel you could have won this match without that injury?

ANNA CHAKVETADZE: Yes, I think I could win, because if I wouldn't think like this, I would never go to the court.  And I told Martina that next time I will be ready and it will be more tougher than today.
