Wozniak Qualifies for Main Draw in Miami

Aleksandra Wozniak (Blainville, Quebec) qualified for the main draw of the Sony Ericsson Open on Tuesday. Held in Key Biscane, Florida, it is the third Tier I* event of the 2008 season on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour.

Wozniak, 143rd in the world, defeated Petra Cetkovska of the Czech Republic, ranked 96th and seeded tenth in qualifyingin two sets of 6-4 and 6-1. She won her first round match on Monday by a score of 6-4 and 6-2 against Ukrainian Yuliana Fedak, ranked 110th and seeded nineteenth.

With the win Wozniak joins countrywoman Stephanie Dubois (Laval, Quebec) in the tournament’s main draw. Dubois received a wildcard into the main draw thanks to an agreement between Tennis Canada and the IMG firm, owner of the tournament.

Dubois will face Russian Ekaterina Bychkova, ranked 105th, in round one while Wozniak will take on Frenchwoman Aravane Rezai, 54th on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour rankings.

Wozniak and Dubois will both take part in the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank held at Uniprix Stadium July 26 – August 3.
