Tennis Canada announced Monday that popular tennis radio show Aces will be making its return to Sportsnet 590 The FAN for another year of in-depth, exciting, and engaging talk about the sport. Hosted by veteran tennis reporter Tom Tebbutt and broadcaster Roger Lajoie, the hour-long show will make its debut this evening with Canadian star and world No. 9 Milos Raonic as the guest.
“I am very much looking forward to another year of tennis talk on Aces,” said Kelly Murumets, president and CEO of Tennis Canada. “This show has been such a great partnership between Tennis Canada and Sportsnet 590 The FAN, and a wonderful avenue for more tennis coverage. We know that tennis fans are very passionate and Aces is a perfect outlet for longtime fans to get another taste and also for new fans to learn more about the sport.”
For the first time, Aces will sit in the same hourly slot each week, airing Mondays at 11 p.m. for a total of 12 episodes. Fans can listen live by tuning in on their AM 590 dial or online at www.sportsnet.ca/590. A podcast of each episode will also be available the next morning for later listening, as will regular recaps of each show on the Tennis Canada website.
The first episode will air Monday May 23 following the conclusion of Game 4 of the Toronto Raptors – Cleveland Cavaliers NBA Eastern Conference Final. Alongside featured guest Raonic, the show will look ahead to the French Open, which is just underway in Paris.
Tebbutt’s popular Mailbag segment will be returning to Aces, while tennis fans will enjoy a new segment each week where Canada’s top official Tony Cho, a supervisor and referee at pro tournaments around the world, will answer burning questions about difficult or offbeat rules in tennis. The hot topics of the sport at the moment will be discussed, prizing will remain a regular element of the show, and Tebbutt and Lajoie will also be joined by different tennis personalities. Past guests of the show include Eugenie Bouchard, Chris Evert, John McEnroe, Jack Sock, Serena Williams, Daniel Nestor, Petra Kvitova, Pam Shriver, and James Blake.
“It should be another fun season of Aces with non-stop tennis discussion,” said Tebbutt, who has been reporting on tennis for the past four decades. “As in the past, we’ll have interesting guests while discussing the latest goings-on in tennis, mixed in with some opinions and a few laughs. We think the 11 p.m. time slot will make for a little less structured show with more time to respond to questions from our listeners.”
The complete schedule of Aces is as follows, with each episode airing at 11 p.m. on a Monday:
