New mom Victoria Azarenka is heading back to the tennis courts for the first time since giving birth last November to son Leo.
Earlier this year the two-time Major champion announced her plans to make her return at Wimbledon. Azarenka has since then expedited her return and received a wildcard into the second edition of the Mallorca Open.

Azarenka’s last match was at Roland Garros in 2016. She retired in her first round match against Karin Knapp with a knee injury. Shortly after, she announced her pregnancy and leave from the WTA Tour.
With her absence, Azarenka has seen her ranking slip from the Top 10 to world no. 978. With the title in Mallorca, she would get right back into the Top 200.
Azarenka will play her first match in over a year against Risa Ozaki. It will be the pair’s first meeting. The winner will face no. 7 seed Ana Konjuh or a qualifier. Konjuh is coming into Mallorca off of a semi-final run in s’Hertogenbosch.

After Mallorca Azarenka will head to Wimbledon and Stanford. If Azarenka wins another Grand Slam, she will be the fourth woman in history to win a Major title after becoming a mother. Definitely not out of the question for the former world no. 1 and two-time Australian Open champion.
