Ashleigh Barty of Australia and Demi Schuurs of the Netherlands fought tooth and nail to claim the doubles crown at Rogers Cup presented by National Bank. They defeated second seeds Latisha Chan of Taiwan and Ekaterina Makarova of Russia. The 80-minute match ended in three tight sets and a super tiebreak (4-6, 6-3, 10-8).
Though only seeded eighth, the winners have still earned more titles this season than any other players.
Demi Schuurs will be taking home her sixth trophy after winning in Rome with Barty, ‘S-Hertogenbosch and Hobart with Elise Mertens, Nuremberg with Katarina Srebotnik and Brisbane with Kiki Bertens.
Ashleigh Barty racked up a third title after Rome and Miami with Coco Vandeweghe.
As for Chan, she won the title at Flushing Meadows last year with teammate Martina Hingis.
