Eugenie Bouchard was ousted in the third round of the Qatar Total Open in Doha on Wednesday, while Vasek Pospisil suffered the same fate in the second round of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
After capturing two wins in Doha, Bouchard’s run came to an end versus Chinese Zheng Saisai, a player who upset Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber a round earlier. After a close first set, Bouchard had chances in the second set but went 0-for-4 on break chances and Zheng was able to close out the win by a final score of 7-6(1), 6-1.
In Dubai, Pospisil fell to Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus 6-4, 6-2. Baghdatis saved all five break points he faced in the 66-minute match.
Daniel Nestor was the lone winner of the day, as he and Radek Stepanek came back to defeat No. 2 seeds Rohan Bopanna of India and Florin Mergea of Romania 3-6, 7-6(6), 10-4 in the first round at Dubai. The Australian Open finalists will next take on Polish duo Lukasz Kubot and Marcin Matkowski.
