Justine Wins First Title in 2005
Playing in her first final this season, former world No.1 Justine Henin-Hardenne returned to form Sunday defeating No.2 seed Elena Dementieva 7-5 6-4 at the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, SC. The injury-plagued Henin-Hardenne, hadn't won a title since her Olympic gold medal in Athens last summer. In January she withdrew from both Sydney and the Australian Open due to a right knee fracture suffered during practice session on late December.
But Henin-Hardenne is clearly on the mend and the Family Circle Cup seems to bring out the best in her. Since she won her first title in Charleston in 2003, Henin-Hardenne has an 11-0 record at the event. With the win she takes a major leap in the rankings--she is projected to move from No. 43 to No.22 on Monday's new Sony Ericsson WTA Rankings.
