Mauresmo Wins Proximus Diamond Games in Antwerp

Top seed Amelie Mauresmo of France was able to outlast No.3 seed American Venus Williams this weekend in Antwerp, Belgium for her first title of the 2005 season. Mauresmo took home the title of the Proximus Diamond Games, beating Williams in a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory in front of a capacity crowd of 14,500.

"It was an incredible match, with an amazing atmosphere," Mauresmo said.

At the Copa Colsanitas in Bogota, Columbia this Sunday, Italian Flavia Pennetta captured her second career title ending the run of an impressive qualifier. The No.2 seed made it through a week's worth of play in Bogota without dropping a set, including a 7-6(4), 6-4 victory against Spanish qualifier Lourdes Dominguez Lino in the final.

Top seed and defending champion Vera Zvonareva of Russia claimed her second consecutive Cellular South Cup title in Memphis, Tennessee by defeating No. 3 seed American Meghann Shaughnessy 7-6(3), 6-3. This win improves Zvonareva to 8-3 in 2005 and she now defends a Sony Ericsson WTA Tour title for the first time in her career.

This week the Sony Ericsson WTA tour moves to Doha, Qatar for the Total Open and to Acapulco, Mexico for the Abierto Mexicano de Tenis.
