Smashnova Takes Title
July 18, 2005 - On Sunday, Israel's Anna Smashnova celebrated her 10th Sony Ericsson tour victory defeating Italian Tathiana Garbin at the Internazionali di Modena in Italy. Smashnova, ranked No. 61 in the world, won when crowd favorite Garbin was forced to retire after being overcome by the heat in the first-set tie-break. The win is the 29-year-old Smashnova's sixth title on clay.
This week the stars of the Sony Ericsson WTA tour will play in the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters Women's Open in Cincinnati and the Internazionali Femminili di Palermo in Italy.
