Serena Withdraws from Rogers Cup

August 17, 2005 - Due to a left knee injury, No. 5 seed Serena Williams has withdrawn from the 2005 Rogers Cup presented by American Express at the Rexall Centre at York University . Williams, who won her second-round match over France 's Stephanie Cohen- Aloro on Tuesday, was clearly favouring the knee during that match.

She said that on the advice of her therapist she would return to Florida to try and strengthen the knee. ?The knee just isn't 100 per cent,? said Williams. ?It's hard to be out there when you know that you can't play at your best and could potentially make it worse.?
