Clijsters KO's Razzano, Justine Through to Third Round,

August 17, 2005 - Belgium's Kim Clijsters, the No. 7 seed at the Rogers Cup presented by American Express, made quick work of France's Virginie Razzano winning 6-3, 6-0.

Although she had a somewhat shaky start, having her serve broken in the opening game of the first set, clearly Clijsters has regained the form that earned her the No.1 ranking in 2003. This year, she has been red hot.

She leads all the other players winning a Tour-leading five titles this season at Indian Wells, Miami, Eastbourne, Stanford and Los Angeles.

About her slow start Clijsters said: ?I've just come from LA, I did not hit for the last two days so I'm a bit jetlagged but I'm happy to be here.?

The No. 4 seed and reigning French Open champ, Justine Henin-Hardenne had an easy time with her second round match at the Rexall Centre. She defeated Mariana Diaz- Oliva 6-1, 6-3. It was the first match for Henin-Hardenne since she lost at Wimbledon in the first round. But the 2003 Rogers Cup champion looked fit and in fighting form.

?I'm pretty happy with the way I played today and with my attitude,? said Henin-Hardenne after the match .. ?I served pretty good . I played well on the important points. You need matches to find your confidence.? Henin-Hardenne will now play China 's Jie Zheng who defeated No. 16 seed Ai Sugiyama 2-6, 7-6(8 ) ,6 -3.

No. 6 seeded Russian Nadia Petrova had to dig deep to defeat the 16-year-old Bulgarian Sesil Karatantcheva 4-6, 6-1, 6 -4. Petrova said she was bothered by windy conditions and the fact that she has not played enough matches lately to feel confident on court. ?After I lost the first set I pulled myself together,?said Petrova .

?I started to be more consistent, aggressive. I went for my shots and they started to come in.? Petrova will play China 's Na Li who outlasted Maria Vento- Kabchi of Venezuela 6 -4, 6-7(5), 6-2.

Ninth-seeded Russian Anastasia Myskina had to fight hard to beat American qualifier Laura Granville 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. She now moves into a third round encounter with Japan 's Shinobu Asagoe who defeated Russian Alina Jidkova 6-4 6-3.
