Roger Federer just keeps on winning.
The 35-year-old Swiss legend has now gone through his last seven(!) matches without dropping a set. To make it more impressive, only four of the 14 sets he’s played ended in a tiebreak.
On Saturday afternoon at the Miami Open, Federer encountered American rising star and qualifier Frances Tiafoe in the second round. Tiafoe was able to do what many failed to accomplish in Indian Wells last week and that was break the Federer serve. The break occurred in the first game of the second set but it was short-lived as Federer broke right back. Federer would break the 19-year-old again to win 7-6(2), 6-3 in one hour, 12 minutes.

As the Indian Wells champion, Federer is in a position to complete what few have done.
Last year, Novak Djokovic and Victoria Azarenka were both crowned champions of Indian Wells and Miami, thus making them the winners of the “Sunshine Double”. With Elena Vesnina’s early exit in Miami, Federer stands alone in hopes of completing the Sunshine Double. He has done this twice before – 2005 and 2006.
However, one tall task stands in the way of the Swiss – Juan Martin del Potro.

The Federer-Del Potro third round clash will be their first encounter since 2013 at the Barclays World Tour Finals. Federer narrowly got the comeback win 4-6, 7-6(2), 7-5. Federer leads the head-to-head record 15-5 (10-5 on hard courts). Their last seven matches have gone the distance.
Playing Federer means that Del Potro would have faced all of the ‘Big 4’ in less than a year into his comeback. He holds a 3-3 record against Djokovic, Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal since the 2016 Rio Olympics. Del Potro defeated Djokovic and Nadal en route to a silver medal finish and brought down Murray in his hometown to win Davis Cup.
Federer and Del Potro will face off on Monday at the Miami Open.
