Sportsnet renews multimedia rights; augmented coverage now includes all rounds of the tournament – Rogers sublicenses French-language rights to TVA Sports

TORONTO (May 12, 2015) Rogers and Tennis Canada today announced a five-year renewal of its sponsorship agreement for the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank tournaments in Toronto and Montreal. The partnership sees Rogers as the title sponsor through 2020, with Sportsnet renewing broadcast rights with expanded coverage for all rounds of the tournament in English and French beginning in 2016. Rogers also announced today a sublicensing agreement with TVA Sports for the French-language rights to Rogers Cup. As part of the deal, Rogers and Tennis Canada are working together on grassroots initiatives to help build the game in Canada. Details on this and a full tournament broadcast schedule will both be announced at a later date. “Sports continues to be a key pillar in our strategy of delivering world-class content and experiences to Canadians,” said Livia Zufferli, SVP, Brand, Rogers. “We look forward to our continued partnership with Tennis Canada to help grow the game.” “We are thrilled and tremendously grateful to Rogers and Sportsnet for their commitment to our world-class tournaments and to helping us achieve our mission of growing the sport of tennis in Canada,” said Kelly Murumets, President and CEO, Tennis Canada. “They have done a phenomenal job of promoting and raising the profile of our athletes and our events through sponsorship and broadcast coverage, and we are extremely happy that they will remain the home for our Canadian tennis events.” Sportsnet’s renewed broadcast agreement with Tennis Canada for Rogers Cup features a comprehensive suite of multimedia rights, including television, online and mobile. Under the new agreement, Sportsnet will broadcast all rounds of the tournament, including the semifinals and finals, delivering Canadian tennis fans more viewing options than ever before, at any time, and on any device. Previously, Sportsnet had the rights to the early rounds (Monday-Friday) of the tournament. “Rogers Cup has become one of the most renowned tournaments in the world. With the smashing success of our Canadian tennis stars, the sport is on a meteoric rise in this country and we are excited to bring all the action to not only the current passionate fan base, but all those who are now discovering this great game,” said Scott Moore, President, Sportsnet & NHL Properties, Rogers. Last year’s events were amongst the most-watched in tournament history, with more than 4.6 million* viewers experiencing some or all of the Rogers Cup matches on Sportsnet. Owned and operated by Tennis Canada, the prestigious Rogers Cup presented by National Bank attracts the biggest stars in tennis year after year. In 2015, the men’s event will be staged at Uniprix Stadium in Montreal from August 7 to 16, while the women’s event will take place at Rexall Centre in Toronto from August 8 to 16.
