Saturday’s afternoon session pits Kei Nishikori of Japan against Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka, which will be their first encounter in over a year and a half.

Although Wawrinka owns the head-to-head 3-to-1, their previous two matches have been high quality affairs, with the Swiss coming through a tight third-set tiebreak at the Australian Open in 2015 and Nishikori prevailing in a five-set epic en route to his first Grand Slam final at the 2014 US Open.

Both have faced stern opposition leading up to the semifinals. Nishikori dropped a set in the quarters to a resurgent Grigor Dimitrov, while Wawrinka needed tense tiebreaks to overcome Mikhail Youzhny in his first match.
