Second seeded Stan Wawrinka faces off against 6’8″ Kevin Anderson for a place in what would be their first semifinal in Canada.

Wawrinka is into the Toronto quarter-finals following two solid victories over Mikhail Youzhny and Jack Sock, and he has yet to drop a set. Anderson reached the final eight courtesy of a strong triumph opposite Viktor Troicki, retirement win over No.6 seed Dominic Thiem, and a hard-fought battle against Bernard Tomic in the third round, where he hit 26 aces to ultimately prevail 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Although these two have yet to face in 2016, they have split their previous eight meetings, with Wawrinka initially owning the match-up only to see Anderson win four of their previous five matches. In their most recent encounter at the US Open, Wawrinka dismantled the big-serving South African in their most decisive head-to-head match – one of just three of their encounters that didn’t feature a tiebreak.
