Tomic stays alive

Monday, Aug 5

The qualifying rounds dispatched a number of famous names to the main draw of Rogers Cup presented by National Bank at IGA Stadium in Montréal.

The unpredictable Bernard Tomic (14) of Australia, always impeccable Daniel Evans (2) of the UK and Spanish veteran Feliciano Lopez secured their ticket to the next level.

However, the same can’t be said for John Millman (4) of Australia or Ricardas Berankis (7) of Lithuania, who will only move on in the unlikely event that a player in the main draw bows out.

Soonwoo Kwon of South Korea, Bradley Klahn of the US (at the expense of Canadian Steven Diez), Ilya Ivashka of Belarus and Tommy Paul of the US round out the list of survivors. The main draw gets underway on Monday at 11 a.m.
